Well with gas going through the roof, we aren’t going very far this Spring Break. That’s okay though. Mom had planned all sorts of things for us to do. Her and Daddy are taking us to a play at the local theatre tonight. It’s just an old movie theatre that went out of business years ago. In fact, I don’t even remember there ever being movies shown there. Oh well, it’s some kind of comedy. For the life of me I can’t remember the name of it. I know some of the people in the play so it should be pretty good. Oh well, maybe I’ll remember it later and let you know how it went.
Can you believe it’s already Easter Sunday? I volunteer at the local ‘Meals on wheels’ and just love seeing all the people’s appreciation when I deliver their Easter meal. I have made some great friends doing that. A lot of the people don’t get to see many visitors so sometimes I’ll just stop by even when it’s not my day to deliver their meals. I think I have been adopted as family to some of them. Aunt Lizzie, as she asked me to call her, is a hoot. She can tell some stories from when she was young that keep me rolling. Papa Thomas has no more family left. His only grandson was killed in Vietnam and his mother (Papa Thomas’ daughter died in a car accident 3 years later). He does have a son but I think there’s a problem with him. I don’t ask though. Well gotta get ready to spread some Easter cheer!!! Happy Easter!!!!
Top of the mornin to ya!!! It’s St. Paddys Day! Yeah I’m a bit Irish and love this holiday. I’m not that crazy about wearing green though because it’s not one of my favorite colors to wear. Oh well, I can wear a little I guess.
St. Patrick’s Day is a time to drink green beer (well if you’re old enough to that is) and celebrate even if you’re Irish or not. Isn’t that funny? Why green beer? I know Ireland is called the Emerald Isle, isn’t it? I think it’s because of the rolling green hills. I think I need to know a little more about Ireland so I went to http://www.discoverireland.com/us/ to learn a thing or two. When you click on the link, it will ask you to click on a flag of the country you would be visiting from. Wonder why? Are the prices different for each country? And who was St. Patrick anyway and why do we celebrate him? Boy and I full of questions or what today? I think I’m for full of the or what mostly. Anyway, HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY!!!!!!!!!!!
Spring break is just around the corner and I can’t wait. it seems like foreve since whe had our Christmas break. The bad part is we probably won’t do anything for Spring Break with gas prices being what they are. Mom said that when she started driving, gas was only 37 cents a gallon. They could put in a dollars worth of gas and ride all night. Now a dollars worth of gas won’t even get you half a gallon. My mom found this cool website that lets you check for the cheapest gas in your area. Just go to http://autos.msn.com/partners/sponsorpage.aspx?page=gas, put in your zip code and it’ll tell you who charges what for gas in your area. It even tells you the address and what brand of gas it is. How cool is that?
Family means a lot of different things to different people. To me ‘family’ is anyone that I love. See I grew up in what most people wouldn’t consider an ‘average’ family. I was the first born. In fact, I was an only child until I was almost 8 years old. I wanted a big brother and younger siblings for as long as I could remember. When my mother brought home my baby brother, I thought that was the greatest thing she ever brought home. Sure as he got a little older he was a pain in the rear but I still loved him dearly.
Then when I was 11 someone that worked with my daddy asked my mother to babysit a baby girl that was about 13 months old while they moved. They never came back to get her so we adopted her. Through that process, my parents were asked to consider taking in a ‘problem child’ as a foster child. He became my big brother since he was 15 and I was 12. My family also included my bestest friend in the world Alice and her family too, so in a lot of ways, my family was not what you might call the ‘typical family’ but it sure was full of love. I think that’s why I don’t like those step this and half that phrases. They are all just ‘family’.
