A lot of stars that had either worked with or knew Bernie Mac paid tribute to him. He died suddenly Saturday from pneumonia of all things. How does someone get pneumonia in August? I thought that was something most people came down with in the winter but I guess I was wrong about that. It’s always a shame to lose someone too soon and Bernie was only 50 years old. That’s not very old at all in the real world where you see plenty of people on TV that are over 100. I guess when it’s your time to go, you have no choice no matter how old you are or how young you are. Life isn’t a given, it’s a gift and we should all cherish each day just as that, a gift because tomorrow my not come for all of us. My heart goes out to his family and those that knew him personally.
Well I call her Mamaw and have since I was a little girl. She is by far the sweetest woman on the face of the earth. It’s hard to believe she gave birth to my Daddy, just kidding. My Daddy is pretty cool after all. He grew up in those mountains and talks about it quite a bit. Mamaw raised 5 kids in those mountains and didn’t drive until after Papaw was gone.
I didn’t know Papaw very well. He was the total opposite of Mamaw. He was very quiet and kept to himself most of the time. The hardest thing is he committed suicide when I was real little. He went to the doctor and they gave him some type of anti-depressant and within two weeks of taking them, he took his own life. I’m not sure what type of anti-depressant it was but it back fired with Papaw. He wasn’t the type of man to do that either. He went to church every Sunday and……………I don’t really want to talk about that anymore.
It’s so darn hot here and for sure at the beach. We decided to take a little trip to the mountains next week and stay all week. I love it there. My aunt has a house across the street from my grandmother and lets us use it anytime we want. It’s beautiful there. When you look down the driveway, you can see the river across the street that runs by my grandmothers house. We go tubing down the river and have since I was little. Daddy and my brother fish, and I do too sometimes.
It’s good clean fun and we don’t have to worry about anything but the animals that come out at night to go to the river. We have seen bear, deer, fox and even heard bob cats holler. That’s make you get your butt inside real quick!!!! It’s like being in Heaven until you hear that.
When Uncle Bill came and told us he was getting married, my Daddy asked him if he had to get married. Uncle Bill looked at him kind of puzzled and said “What do you mean?” Well Daddy asked him since he got those little wonder pills he didn’t get her pregnant did he? Mom and I are doing all we can not to bust out laughing because Uncle Bill got a real concerned look on his face and said “Lord I hope not.” Mom and I had to leave the room. They’re both too old to make babies!!!!
Today is Miss Pearls 93rd birthday. Remember me telling you about her giving me that quilt for a graduation gift? I just love that lady. She is about the sweetest person I know. I sure hope when I get that old, if I do, that I have as much life, joy, and peace as Miss Pearl does. What a wonderful blessing she has been to me in my life.
